Volunteer to Help Restore Our Local Footpaths

Our community footpaths are more than just walking routes – they are part of our heritage, our wellbeing, and our connection to the beautiful landscape of Cilymaenllwyd.

Thanks to the Cilymaenllwyd Footpath Restoration Project, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund – Sustainable Communities and delivered with support from Carmarthenshire County Council, several of our local routes have been given a new lease of life. But the work doesn’t end there. A dedicated team of local volunteers continues to maintain these footpaths year-round, helping to keep them open, safe, and accessible for everyone.

From cutting back seasonal overgrowth to reopening paths after storms, volunteers play a vital role in caring for our countryside. After Storm Darragh in December 2024, which brought down more than 30 trees in a single night, local volunteers were out immediately, working together to clear blockages and reconnect the routes. Their efforts show just how important community support is in keeping our footpaths alive.

Where We’re Working

Recent focus has been in the beautiful Wenallt valley between Efailwen and Login, an ancient woodland rich in wildlife, with footpaths running along the Afon Wenallt.

What Volunteers Do

Whether you’re an experienced countryside volunteer or completely new to it, there’s a role for everyone:

  • Cutting back overhanging vegetation
  • Helping with species surveying
  • Supporting with plant identification
  • General footpath maintenance throughout the year

No prior experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to help.

Why Get Involved?

  • Keep active and enjoy the outdoors
  • Meet others in the community
  • Learn new skills and share knowledge
  • Support local wildlife and biodiversity

Even giving just a few hours can make a huge difference.

By joining the volunteer team, you’ll be helping to protect this special landscape and ensure it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
