Following the success of the Cilymaenllwyd Footpath Restoration Project 2023-24 in the Afon Wenallt valley, Cilymaenllwyd Community Council is preparing to submit a second grant application for the restoration of public footpaths within the community. This initiative aims to improve accessibility and enhance the local walking network for both residents and visitors.

Grant Information

The funding for this project originates from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which is distributed through County Councils, including Carmarthenshire County Council, under the Sustainable Communities Fund. The aim of this fund is to strengthen community connections, foster local pride, and deliver both direct and indirect economic benefits.

The grant application deadline is 17th March 2025, with all project work to be completed by January 2026. Grant notifications are expected by May 2025, allowing approximately six months for project completion.

Invitation to Contractors

Cilymaenllwyd Community Council is inviting written quotations from at least three Carmarthenshire-based contractors for the clearance and restoration of public footpaths. The footpaths to be restored are key to reconnecting communities and linking to historical sites, including the prehistoric Cromlech, Gwal-y-Filiast. The proposed restoration will also integrate with the previously completed 2024 footpath project.

Scope of Work:

  • Clearing overgrowth and fallen trees
  • Restoring drainage ditches
  • Repairing or installing fencing
  • Installing signage where needed
  • Assembling stiles and installing gates
  • Constructing stream and ditch crossings
  • Creating resting areas where appropriate

  • 52/6/1 in Efailwen
  • 52/5/2 in Efailwen
  • 4/12/2 in Ffynnonwen area
  • 4/20/3 leading to Dolwilym bridge
